SingleGuyMoney readers - Welcome and thanks for visiting. To celebrate my 50,000th reader, I'm having a giveaway!!!!

I sincerely appreciate everyone taking the time to visit and read my blog. I enjoy sharing my financial story and I hope you enjoy reading.

The Gift:
I will be giving away a free $50 gas card. I am funding this out of my own pocket and no company gave me a free gift card. I know gas prices suck right now so to thank you for visiting my blog, I want to make that next fill-up a little bit easier. I have a couple of books to give away but you can't put a book in your gas tank. Stay tuned for the book giveaway coming soon.

The Rules:

  • One entry per person, duplicate entries will be disqualified. - Let's make this fair.
  • Contest applies to U.S. residents only.
  • I have the final say on the contest.
  • I will use a random online number generator to pick the winner.
  • The gas card will be from BP. If you don't have a BP in your area, if possible, I will get a giftcard from the gas station you choose (if I have one in my area).

How to Enter:

  • The contest starts today, Saturday March 29, 2008 and will end on Friday April 4, 2008 @ 11:59pm. I will announce the winner in a post on Saturday April 5, 2008.
  • All you need to do to enter is leave a comment on this post. I want to know: what kind of car you drive and how much you are spending on gas each week or month.

If you are new or haven't done so already, please consider subscribing to SingleGuyMoney to be updated when there is a new post and to find out if you won!

Hey man, really good advice for people looking for ways to save money.

Anyway I drive a 2003 Ford Mustang Conv. (V6). Guzzles gas unfortunately. I get about 19-20 MPG and spend about $50 a week.

i have a Audi A6, i live in the downtown Chicago and pricing are up to $4/gallon already. i pay about $65/week just going to work, and its not even sunny yet.

Thanks for giving away a nifty prize for reaching 50,000 visitors.

I drive a 1997 Dodge Stratus ES and spend about $100 per month on gas.

  4. Patrick // March 29, 2008 at 10:45 AM

I drive a Mazda 3 and get 26-30 mpg. I usually fill up twice unless I go on a trip, so I spend about $65/month.

  5. Anonymous // March 29, 2008 at 10:48 AM

Wow, great prize! I drive a 2004 Saab 9-3 which I love! Luckily I don't ahve to drive too much so I spend about $75 a month on every day driving.

I live in LA and drive a 1995 Ford Explorer Sport. Fortunately my work commute is just 5 miles and some days I do it on bicycle. So I spend about $95 per month on gas.

hey, i drive a '97 audi a4 1.8t quattro. i get average around 24-26 mpg while still having a decent amount of fun driving.

i guess i spend around $60 every two weeks to fill up.

    Hey SGM!

I drive a 1984 VW Rabbit GTI. I drive a lot, so I use about 50/week on average. 3.66 a gallon is just great :) ha ha.

Great contest!! I hope you get lots of buss for it. I may have to do the same here soon. It will be BP as well. I have a BP chase card that gives great incentives. Plus I notice I get better mileage on BP gas compared to like shell or texaco. Exxon isn't too bad on my MPG either.

  11. Anonymous // March 29, 2008 at 12:13 PM

Hah, I meant BUZZ. That was a typo.

  12. Anonymous // March 29, 2008 at 12:40 PM

Congrats on your milestone! And thanks for the useful giveaway.

I drive an '04 Accord and spend $40-45/week, depending on where I am when I fill up. I'm amazed at the difference in price between DC, MD and VA, although they're all within minutes of each other.

I drive an 07 Civic Hybrid and currently spend roughly $45 per month on gas. So a $50 gas card is over a month's worth of gas for me ;)

  15. "Future Millionaire" // March 29, 2008 at 2:46 PM

I drive a 2004 Honda Civic and spend roughly $150 a month on gas. About 1/2 of the cost is from traveling twice a month from Valdosta to Atlanta. When I move back to Atlanta in two weeks I'm anticipating my gas bill to drop dramatically -- I can't wait!!!

  16. Anonymous // March 29, 2008 at 2:55 PM

I drive a '02 Ford Explorer Sporttrak, and just recently started driving 170 miles round-trip each day. That works out to about $120-130/week roughly. Luckily, I get per-diem that makes up for that.

  17. Byington // March 29, 2008 at 3:08 PM

Hey I drive a 2005 Toyota Camry (4cyl) and I spend about $40/week on gas, but I try to car-pool whenever possible.

    Thanks for the blog

Hey! Thanks for the opportunity to win. I drive a 2006 Kia Optima, and the last time I filled up, it took 47 BUCKS to fill! I fill up just about every 8 days or so. Sucks that gas is over $3.40 a gallon now.

I spend in the neighbourhood of $250-275 a month on gas. I live about an hour away from work, and the highway I drive on is 75mph, and I always find myself driving faster, even though I know it is a waste of money. I drive a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero. I get about 32 mpg highway.

I'll be moving into my new apartment in three weeks, and I'll be three miles away from work. Now, what to do with the extra money each month...

(deleted first post because I forgot info about my car)

  21. Jonathan // March 29, 2008 at 3:49 PM

I drive a 1996 Nissan 240sx and only spend about $50 a month on gas. This is due more to the fact that I am out of town a lot and only drive to and from the airport. Great contest SGM!

I drive a 2007 Mazda 3. I get about 33 mpg on my 40 mile one way commute. My gas spending has squeaked up from $150 last June, to $190 this month. Hopefully I'll be moving to within 10 miles of my office by the end of the summer - not sure I can afford not to.

  24. Melanie // March 29, 2008 at 4:26 PM

I drive a Ford Explorer. Right now it's costs us 60.00 a week to fill our tank. I am terrified how much it's going to cost us when gas is over four bucks a gallon. My husband is looking into buying a motorcycle to drive to work, so that I can drive the Saturn which gets better gas mileage.

I love this blog!! Keep up the good work!

We drive a 1997 Toyota Camry. Our 12 month average is $58.53 a month. My spouse walks the two blocks to work every day so ours is mostly due to driving the 100 mile roundtrip to my parents twice a month (where we do free laundry) and a weekly shopping trip.

Thanks for the gas card giveaway! I have a 2002 Honda Civic. My gas mileage is 28/35 mph. Since my car is at 95000 miles, my mileage has gotten slightly worse. I spend about $40/wk.

    Very generous of you!
We have a Prius, currently running about 34mpg (city). It's dropped about 4mpg in the last month with no reason except --hmmm--some tainting of the fuel. I'm checking out different brands of fuel to see if there's a difference, so a BP card would be great!! Out monthly costs run about $35.

  42. Unknown // March 30, 2008 at 1:40 AM

Hyundai Elantra. $41 bucks to fill it up. About $200 a month.

  44. Sara // March 30, 2008 at 4:07 AM

2006 Nissan Sentra. $32/fill-up. I fill up at odd intervals because I don't drive much during the week (take the bus to campus) but it takes a little over half a tank to go home (and that's just one way!) so I usually end up filling up twice on weekends. I'd say I average around $130/month.

I agree with Tree. Just yesterday I had actually been thinking that it would be kind of fun to ride a horse to school.

Whew! I don't own a car or drive on a regular basis so I'm not entering but I must say, I'm going to stop complaining that my monthly metrocard just went up $5 a month to $81. That $81 is basically all I'll ever have to spend on transportation all month, unless I go out of town or take a cab. That seems more or less average of what people spend on just gas, nevermind insurance, car payment or maintenance every month.

I don't own a car. :^/ Instead, I like to stay in shape by walking or just taking the bus, since I live in a medium-sized city. I can get away with that because I'm a college student. ;) Every year, I get a bus pass that allows me to ride the bus whenever and wherever I want, from August till September - and it only costs $65!

I realize that this isn't the best solution to the transportation problem, but it's a solution. :) As for shopping and groceries, I carpool with my friends about once a week.

I drive a '98 Toyota Camry and I've been spending an average of 60 dollars a month on gas. I generally don't drive to work and take public transportation, so I've been able to keep it low. This month, however, I have something long-distance I need to go to every weekend, so I have about 160 budgeted for gas. I'm just glad my car gets good gas mileage!

I drive a 2005 Toyota Corolla and I pay about $90 to $100 a month with the current gas prices. Ouch. I have a 40-mile round-trip commute every day, and there is virtually no public transportation in the city I live in. Sad thing is, I LIVE in the city but my job is in the suburbs.

I drive a Honda Accord and pay right around $160/month ($38/week?) It'd be less if there wasn't so much traffic!! (Takes me an hour to go 13 miles in the evening!)

    Congrats on your milestone!

OK honestly, I personally do not have a car, but this graduating senior still has to move to another state in May (pre-job). This gas card would defintely come in handy since moving can cost $$$. How about $117 for filing up a 35 gallon tank for a Uhaul ($3.35/gal of gas)?

Hi SingleGuyMoney - I came from SingleMa's blog. Congrats on reaching the 50,000 mark! I drive a 1997 Nissan Maxima, and unfortunately, I drive about 70+ miles a day. I am in the South Chicago Suburbs, and I save between $.20 to $.30 / gallon going to Indiana for gas (I'm about 3 miles away from the border). Even with doing this and trying to consolidate my trips, I fill up twice a week and spend about $100 (total for the week).
