If you are considering getting your teen or young adult a cell phone and don't want to worry about overages that result in huge bills, consider getting them a Straight Talk Cell Phone. I bought one for my teenage sister a few months ago and it has worked out great. It can also work for those of you that don't want the hassle of signing a contract or worrying about a credit check.

If you haven't heard of Straight Talk before, it is a service from TracFone Wireless. TracFone Wireless is largest no contract cell phone provider in the US.

Straight Talk was designed to simplify wireless costs without having to sign a contract. They offer 2 simple plans: Unlimited talk, messages and data nationwide for $45 or 1000 minutes of talk time, 1000 text or picture messages and 30mb Data for $30 per month.

You basically pick your cell phone (they offer 3 choices), pick which plan you want and pay. If you are worried about coverage, the service is comparable to that of the big carriers as indicated by the map below.

You can purchase Straight Talk online (see affiliate link below) or at participating Wal-Mart stores.

This is a very smart endorsement Single Guy. This single girl bought one for my teen daughter and for myself because I'm trying to cut down on my expenses through these tough times and looking for the best value. After much researching to get off the two year contract grid, StraighTalk became the best offer for me. Found it at Walmart and for an added value I read on the wrapping box that StraighTalk is serviced by Verizon, voted last week by Consumer Report as best network in the country. Hands down this is the best stocking stuffer this holiday season and beyond. HO HO HO

    Great post!

If you're a heavy texter, you may want to look at Straight Talk's Samsung R451C which has a qwerty keyboard. Quite cool!

I was skeptical at first but everything I heard about it is true.

No more crappy coverage from AT+T. The Verizon network is solid and I haven’t dropped a call yet.

I think $45 a month is fantastic and I got a very nice Samsung phone with a qwerty keyboard so texting and web surfing is easy too.

I’m saving hundreds of dollars a year now so it’s pretty awesome.

I'm not the only one who thinks so, either. Here's another happy Straight Talk-er:

I use Straight Talk and it's the best cell phone I have ever had. Watch this video for another opinion on it.
